Park Avenue:
Transforming a basement to comfortable living space

Once a dark basement used for laundry and storage, this remodeled space is now an activity hub for a family of seven. To create a comfortable living space, Oak Design lowered the floors by two inches and relocated unsightly ceiling ducts and pipe work. By deepening the window wells, the size of the windows doubled, flooding the space with natural light.

The remodeling project is anchored by a 100 square foot family room. The original floor was excavated and replaced with cork flooring, lending cushioning underfoot and a warm, wood-like feel. Energy-efficient radiant heating was installed for a cozy atmosphere, even in winter. A custom maple mantle and glass tile transform the existing mason fireplace, and rounded millwork elements on the mantle and cabinets create a playful feeling.

Oak Design cut through a foundation wall to convert an old-fashioned safe room to a convenient kitchenette. An orderly laundry room provides ample storage space, while an upscale bathroom with steam shower and spa-like Japanese lockers adds a luxurious quality to the basement.
