February 9, 2010 Oak Design & Construction Wins Two Awards from the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Regional Building Organization’s Annual Awards Recognize Excellence in Residential Design Oak Design & Construction, a residential design/build firm serving Chicago’s western suburbs and specializing in additions, kitchens and bathrooms, recently received two Gold Key Awards from the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago (HBAGC) for two remodeled homes in River Forest and Oak Park. The Key Awards recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, landscaping, landscape architecture and remodeling. "At Oak Design, we integrate architecture, construction, engineering and interior design to deliver a high quality experience and are proud to be recognized by the HBAGC," says Dave Brady, certified remodeler and owner of Oak Design & Construction. For a home in River Forest, Oak Design collaborated with local interior designer Judi Grossman of Space Redefined for a 1,221 square-foot family room addition. Grossman was the lead project designer for this functional space for a family of six. It features a media center with custom built cabinetry, a fireplace and a screened-in porch. Materials used such as slate roof tiles, custom copper gutters, downspouts, and exterior wood trim make the addition blend seamlessly with the existing style of the home. A finished basement with radiant floor heating below the addition provides a space for recreation for the growing family. For a 1920’s two-story home in Oak Park, Oak Design created a 600 square-foot addition featuring a three seasons room and two-story addition designed by Nevin Hedlund Architects of River Forest. Instead of a rear addition, which would have eaten up an already small backyard, blocked natural sunlight into the dining room and created poor circulation for an expanded second floor, the addition was made to the side of the home. The second story addition included a complete reconfiguration of the second floor, addition of a second bathroom for children to share and the transformation of the existing hall bathroom into a new master bathroom. The first floor of the addition includes the three-season porch featuring tongue and groove Western Red Cedar and a porcelain tile floor. The awards recognize the expertise and attention extended to both remodel projects - qualities that are shared among all of Oak Design’s endeavors.
