September 11, 2009 Oak Design to Donate 300 Oak Trees at OakToberfest By: StephCallahan, Trib Local Come September 19, Oak Park will be budding with 300 more oak trees. Dave Brady owner of Oak Design and Construction will be donating 300 saplings to the public during OakToberfest to celebrate the company's 30th anniversary in business. Oak Design is alsogiving a monetary donation towards the Oak Park Area Arts Council in honor of the celebration. OakToberfest celebrates the end of the summer in downtown Oak Park between Lake St. and North Blvd. Residents will have the chance to taste microbrews and sample foods from local vendors. Live bands from throughout the country will also be playing all day long. "When you dig into history of Illinois and its former prairie lands, oak trees and specifically savannah, burr, and white oak could withstand fires and grew very well, and don't require lots of care," said Brady. "We would like to see a proliferation of native trees." Based in Oak Park, Oak Design integrates architecture, construction, engineering and interior design. "Our homes are a refuge from the outside world," said Brady. He finds that people are making different choices than a few years ago, "the size of projects has decreased, but clients desire for quality is still there," he said. With a long list of loyal customers who continue to support Oak Design with new business, Oak Design continues to keep on top of latest trends and designs and sustainable building techniques. An award winning company Oak Design has been recognized by the Home Builder Association of Greater Chicago and the National Kitchen and Bath Association, and received preservation awards in community (interior and exterior). Brady, who grew up in Oak Park, was just a lone carpenter when he started the business 30-years-ago. "I started the business during the great huge snowstorm of 1979". Brady was working in new construction at the time, and started helping people with their collapsed garages, due to all the snow. 30 years later Oak Design and Construction has just under 10 full-time employees, but still works under the same motto, "hard work, service, and quality". Giving back to the community is something Brady sees as a very important aspect of business. Oak Design is committed to serving the community through support of the Oak Park Area Arts Council, Parenthesis, Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society, Oak Park Youth Baseball Softball, Wonder Works, a Children's Museum in Oak Park and West Suburban PADS. Next year Oak Design plans to work with the village to sponsor Arbor Day in Oak Park.
