Monroe:
A Kitchen of Their Dreams

A remodeled kitchen adds space for cooking and entertaining in a Mediterranean-style home

The homeowners of this Mediterranean-style home worked with Oak Design for more than ten years on many projects. When it came time to expand their kitchen, the family once again called on Oak Design to deliver a comfortable space for cooking and entertaining. Working with Nevin Hedlund Architects, Oak designed and built an 800 square foot addition to the home, expanding kitchen space and allowing for a casual dining area. “The family of four wanted a larger, more organized and fully-equipped kitchen space for both cooking and entertaining,” says Oak Design President Dave Brady.

The new kitchen design incorporates bold red accents and dark blues complimented by a neutral canvas of painted cabinetry and maple hardwood floors. The cabinets and three freestanding units were custom-built in Oak Design’s cabinet shop.

Many custom details create a highly functional kitchen. A raised dishwasher for easy loading and unloading, dishwasher drawer and maple butcher’s block add aesthetic appeal and practical design to the space.

This project was named as one of the seven most impressive remodeled homes by the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, and is a featured stop on the 2008 Remodel Chicagoland Tour.
