North Grove:
A master bathroom with modern flair and many conveniences

The Rolfes family approached Oak Design to construct a master suite addition to their 90-year-old home. The addition included a master bathroom - a step up from the hall bathroom shared with the rest of the family.

From the very beginning, Kathy Rolfes had a specific vision for her bathroom: old but new. She chose classics such as subway tile, white porcelain fixtures and dark, grainy wood and paired them with modern fittings and cabinetry. The combination proved successful: the classic components correspond to the house’s age while the modern elements suit the family’s tastes.

Oak Design built the 36" custom oak vanity to have a simple, modern feel. The piece includes flat drawer fronts, towel cubbies, open shelving and mirror frame. The Rolfes selected a sleek, square-shaped Duravit® tub for its generous 63" length and narrow width to save space. The under-mount tub allowed for a generous walk-in shower with high granite seat, custom glass shower door and niche for soaps and shampoos.

The polished chrome faucets and clean white subway tile provide a dramatic contrast to the richly textured dark wood. A handmade tile crown from a local boutique provides decoration and a one-inch natural copper slate mosaic runs from the crown to the ceiling.
